How PR Helps With Website Traffic

Updated: Sep 17

New North tells us that many companies are using the same old strategies to increase their website traffic: SEO, clustering, paid media, etc. Now, that’s not to say these strategies don’t work - of course they do, or they wouldn’t be used on such a massive scale. However, if you wanted to get a little ahead of the competition and be in with a better chance of increasing your website traffic, PR can be a great tool.

Read our step-by-step guide to building a successful organic traffic pipeline here.

UTILISE SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS IN YOUR PR CAMPAIGN

Blue Fountain Media states that a successful public relations campaign should incorporate some form of strategic social media component. One fantastic form of utilising social media in your PR campaign is to use social media influencers. Your PR team should build relationships with key influencers in your business area, and nurture those relationships in order to be able to use them to the advantage of your company. Social media influencers can hugely increase your website traffic through something as simple as an Instagram story advert with a swipe-up link. Therefore, it’s important to make sure your PR team understand how best to grow relationships with key influencers in order to help increase your traffic.📈📈

REPURPOSE YOUR CONTENT

Content marketing is a hugely important aspect of any digital PR campaign, and can be incredibly useful in trying to increase your website traffic. The more your content is shared, the greater your brand visibility, therefore the higher your website traffic flow.

In terms of repurposing your content, this is pretty simple and can be hugely beneficial to your content marketing strategy. For example, you can take an existing blog post and transform it into an infographic or a short video, share it on a number of different platforms, and all of a sudden you have a new piece of content marketing encouraging people to check out your website. Be sure not to neglect content marketing in your PR campaigns, as it can be incredibly effective in driving traffic to your website!

PRESS COVERAGE IS ESSENTIAL TO GROWING WEBSITE TRAFFIC

As Fractl say in their post, press coverage is always good for improving a brand’s profile. This is the clearest role that PR plays in growing website traffic! By landing you or your company media coverage, your PR team are automatically increasing your brand’s profile. By increasing your brand’s profile, they are increasing interest in your company and are therefore driving more traffic to your website. It’s a no-brainer!🧠🧠

OK, SO WE CAN SEE HOW PR CAN HELP WITH INCREASING WEBSITE TRAFFIC. BUT WHAT ARE SOME GREAT STRATEGIES TO GET THE BALL ROLLING?

  1. Podcasts! Podcasts are going from strength to strength at the moment. With millions of people worldwide listening to them, it would be crazy not to utilise these in your PR strategies! Podcasts can be great to advertise your business and drive traffic to your website either by mentioning the website name or simply by dropping the link to your website in the podcast show notes.🎙🎙

  2. Press releases! Press releases are often the first port of call for PR teams. If your company has a story to tell or a product or service to sell, press releases are the way to do it. They’re one of the easiest way to get a news story out to several media outlets quickly, and can drastically improve your website traffic by drawing attention to your brand.
