Daniel Walker is an English journalist and television presenter. Walker is well-established in his career as a sports journalist, having presenting shows like Football Focus, BBC Breakfast and regularly reporting for Final Score and Match of the Day on BBC News Channel over the years.
The son of a local church minister and a Welsh mother, Walker was born in Crawley, Sussex, England. He holds a BA degree in History and an MA in Journalism Studies from the University of Sheffield.
Walker won a competition for young sports commentators, after which he professionally started working at Sheffield’s Hallam FM. In 1999, he started working full-time as a presenter and commentator for Manchester’s Key 103 radio, mainly broadcasting UEFA Champions League matches at Old Trafford.
This proved to be his last job in radio. Walker then took the leap in television by joining Granada Television, where he was a commentator on The Football League Review show. Following this, he joined BBC news program North West Tonight. In 2008, Walker started reporting and presenting at Wimbledon, The Open, Ascot, Aintree and The Derby.
Walker was part of the BBC Sports team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In 2011, he interviewed Welsh footballer Gary Speed just the day before his death on 27th November 2011.
Walker writes blogs on the BBC website discussing football and his show, Friday Focus. Walker also involves himself in various charitable work and initiatives. He also organized a flypast at the Endcliffe Park, following the Boeing B-17 crash in the same park. He actively serves several charities, namely Jessica Ennis-Hill, Michael Vaughan, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and Lee Westwood. In 2019, at the age of 42, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for Cosmic Relief with numerous other celebrities.
He successfully won the Royal Television Society Sports Award in 2005.
