Benjamin Russell Brown

Benjamin Russell Brown is a British journalist and a news presenter at BBC News.


Benjamin was born in Ashford, Kent. The son of ITN newscaster Antony Brown, Brown's education took place at Sutton Valence School. He continued his studies in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Keble College, University of Oxford, and later went onto study Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies at the Cardiff School of Journalism. Brown currently works for BBC News as a relief presenter on BBC One.


Brown's career began in 1986 at Independent Radio News, and in 1988, he started working for BBC News as a Foreign Affairs Correspondent. In 1991, he worked in Moscow as a correspondent, and then in 1993, he reported the Chechnya civil war from Russia.


His career as a reporter was well-recognized and celebrated as he received multiple awards, such as the Bayeux War Correspondent of the Year Award and the Golden Nymph Award from the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.


In 1995 he relocated back to London reporting form Croatia, Herzegovina, Kosovo on the break-up of Yugoslavia. He was then awarded the Bayeux-Calvados Award a second time, for war correspondents for reporting on the Intifada protests in Israel in 1991.


Brown is also an author of a novel, Sandstealers, published in 2009 by HarperCollins which explores the experiences of a war correspondent.
